Our Learners of the Week

Well dome to all our learners of the week – we are very proud of all your hard work and achievements!

For working so hard together to write a fantastic report on extreme weather as part of our topic! Gwaith da!

Church School Work – Passover and the story of Moses

A special thanks to Reverend Janice who joined us this week for an assembly on Passover for the children in key stage 2. It was lovely to see the children join in with the worship and to sample some of the Passover Meal she had made.

Children in Nursery have listened to the story of Moses. They talked about families and caring for each other, and how God watches over us and protects us.

Red Nose Day 2022

Thank you again for all your generosity and support for Red Nose Day again this year. It was lovely to see the children all dressed up and we are very grateful for your donations towards such good cause.

Class 1 pupils enjoyed using the new interactive whiteboards to design their own red noses for Red Nose Day 2022!

Foundation Phase Investigations – How the children are developing as Ambitious and Capable Learners

Over the last few months all the staff in Foundation Phase have been working to develop activities and approaches to learning to support the introduction of the Curriculum for Wales from September 2022.

To make sure that all our children have the knowledge, skills and experiences they’ll need to make the most of life, we have been planning activities to help the children develop as ‘Ambitious and Capable Learners’ who:

seek and enjoy challenge
are questioning and enjoy solving problems
can communicate effectively
can explain the ideas and they are learning about

At Ysgol Llanddulas we have looked to build on the strengths we have in the school and introduce new ways of working and increase the opportunities for our children to work in authentic and engaging ways to develop their skills and independence. Below are some examples from our classes in foundation phase over the last week.

The children in Nursery have had a wonderful time working outside the classroom again this week. They fun working together to find different ways to get the ducks in the pond! They had a fantastic time outside working with the water, but it was a really exciting way for the children to work together, communicate and explore different solutions to the problem.

They have also been reading the story ‘Percy the Plane’ and had the fantastic idea to use some cardboard packaging to build their own model of a plane -a great example of the children suggesting ideas and leading their learning.

Fantastic collaboration and problem solving – children in nursery working together to get the ducks in the pond.

The children in Dosbarth 1 have also had a very busy week – they have been learning outside the classroom with a nature walk and continuing to develop their resilience, problem solving and team working skills in the wood work area.

Dosbarth 2: As part of British Science Week, the children in Dosbarth 2 have been busy investigating colours and making their own rainbows! As part of their dinosaur topic, and following on from their workshop with Polly last week, they have also been working together to make their own fossils for their class museum. These investigations have given the children an authentic and ‘real life’ situations for them to collaborate, apply their skills and solve problems.

Dosbarth 5 Amazon art workshop at Emrys ap Iwan.

The children in Dosbarth 5 had a wonderful time on Thursday afternoon when they visited the art studio with Mrs Vaughan-Edmunds. Their topic this term has been Rain Forests, and they had the opportunity to work with clay to make their own Rain forest creatures. The children used different techniques to build their creatures and they had a fantastic time learning new skills and having an opportunity to develop their creativity. It was a wonder opportunity for the children to develop their creative skills and learn new skills and techniques to support their progress in the Expressive Arts as part of the Curriculum for Wales.
