Our Learners of the Week – Ambitious Capable Learners
Well done to all our learners of the week, we are very proud of all their fantastic achievements.
Dosbarth 2 – Llanddulas Now and Then – Humanities
Dosbarth 2 have been busy learning about local history and how the village of Llanddulas has changed over time. They had a wonderful ‘Llanddulas Now and Then Walk’ with Mrs Haven last week, looking at old pictures of the village and seeing how the building had changed. Learning all about our local area is a key part of the Humanities Area of Learning and Experience in the Curriculum for Wales. The theme of Cynefin “the place where we feel we belong, where the people and landscape around us are familiar” is a key part of the new curriculum and opportunities to work and learn in our local area will help our pupils develop their skills and understanding.
Big Walk, Big Wheel 2022 – Ethically Informed Citizens / Health and Well- being
Thank you to everyone who has supported our Big Walk, big Wheel event over the last week. The event is organised by Sustrans and is designed to promote the benefits of active journeys to school. The children have been learning all about the benefits of exercise and walking and riding to school – Health and Well-being. They have also been learning about positive impact on the environment, helping them to develop their understanding as Ethically Informed Citizens.
We still have one more week to go and it would be wonderful to see more children walking, scooting and cycling in to school!
Dosbarth 1 – Super Hero Day – Health and Well-being
Children in Dosbarth 1 had a very special day in class this week, with their very own Super Hero Day ! Over the last few weeks they have been learning all about Super Heroes and linking this to work on Health and Well-being and learning all about ‘What makes us special’ The children have had a wonderful time learning in all areas of the curriculum, with Super Hero maths investigations and written work. They even had the chance to plan their own Super Hero Day with a Super Hero assault course to making Super Hero Smoothies -evaluating the different flavours!
The topic has really engaged and captured the imagination of all the pupils, and it has been a wonderful way to develop areas of the Curriculum for Wales such as Health and Well-being in an exciting way!
Urdd Rugby – Health and Well-being
The girls in Year 5 and Year 6 had a brilliant time at the Urdd Tag Rugby tournament at Nant Conwy Rugby Club. Mr Lloyd was delighted by their performances and their attitude throughout the day – it was great to see them having so much fun, enjoying the games and representing the school so well. we are all very proud of them!
Links with Bryn Elian – Learning from 3-16
A key feature of the Curriculum for Wales is an increased focus on links between schools to develop pupils as learners from 3-16 years. We have been very fortunate to enjoy very strong links with Ysgol Bryn Elian and Ysgol Emrys ap Iwan over the years, and our pupils have really benefited from working with these excellent schools. This week Dosbarth 5 enjoyed a wonderful drama sessions with Miss Williams from Bryn Elian, as part of their Expressive Arts work. They also had the opportunity to visit the science labs and plan an investigation with Mr Wilkins as part of the Science and Technology area of learning . Staff are also working with Bryn Elian and our other cluster schools to further develop our links as we plan for the new curriculum.
