Pentrellyncymer Residential Trip

Year 3 and 4 pupils had a fabulous time at Pentrelllyncymer. Over three days, they canoed, swam, climbed, walked, quested, baked pizza, built dens and problem-solved. Some even found time for sleep! Here are a selection of smiles to show what fun we all had.

Day 1 – Canoeing on Llyn Brenig

As the weather was perfect on arrival Monday, we all headed to Llyn Brenig. After hauling the canoes to the water’s edge and strapping them all together, we had a quick lesson on paddling technique and headed out onto the lake. We gathered to ‘spear-fish’, do the hokey-cokey and the more ambitious ones tested the temperature with our heads. Then it was back to shore to jump into the water and splash around before having (very welcome) hot chocolate.

Day 2

We divided into two groups for the daytime activities – ‘Pentre Quest’ and climbing.

The Quest involved pupils finding their way across country using photographs as a guide, whilst testing observation skills to complete a checklist of items. This was followed by problem solving activities in the woods, working together to create shapes with a length of rope and to cross a ‘swamp’.

Climbing was indoors. We bouldered at low height and then strapped on harnesses and climbed as high as we dared. Again, pupils had to work together as teams to belay and help the climbers back down to the ground.

In the evening, we went on a treasure hunt and then made pizza – delicious!

Day 3

Our final activity took us back into the woods, where – joined by the instructor’s dogs – we built dens and toasted marshmallows.

Well done to all the children involved, and thank you for a fantastic trip!
